Experimental Animation #16

May 6, 2019

This is my finished project. I hope that the class will enjoy it for today.
I know a lot could be done to fix my issues but I can only try my absolute best.
I hope you guys like my sailor senshi transformation!

The last video that I choose to upload for my Experimental Animation Blog that I not my own is by Andrew Thomas Huang. I simply chose this experimental animation because it is so visually appealing to me. Seeing that I am not super proud of my work, I would one day hope and strive for my work to be as cool and defined as Andrew's work.

Experimental Animation #15

April 29, 2019

So I am still working on finishing my last project. I have made a lot of mistakes with masquing in after effects but you know what, its experimental and its my first class, I am very proud that I am seeing a bit of progress with my work. Still. not able to really show anything that is clean except for the last scene for the footage that I am working with that I am actually happy to show.
For this weeks experimental animation feature that I decided to choose is by Maira Maneroa Muro with her animation or rather footage called Making of Experimetnal Animation Workshop 2, Punto y Raya. I chose to use this footage due to the fact that it has been a daunting yet fun experience to create my work. I think that it is important for audiences to know that it takes time and creativity to create and come up with experimental animation. It was so realistic and relatable.

Experimental Animation #14

April 22, 2019

So my group members and I are now set on fixing all of our gathered footage that we have accumulated over the last few weeks. I am not use to masquing every second by second because it took a lot of man hours and patience as well as having to ignore my other finals but I am happy with what I could produce with the amount of time I had available for myself. Shout out to all of my animators out there! I love you all for continuously persevering through this world when you try to create your art!
Just looking a this masterpiece I can feel my inner sailor senshi coming out of me!
this week's experimental animation research that I will be showcasing today is by Steve Cutts and his piece is called Happiness. To be completely honest I chose this piece because I was immediately reminded of The Great Mouse Detective, besides that point, I felt like this animation was just a reflection of the world we live in today. I don't eel that a lot of people are happy and I feel that a lot of people are looking for true happiness through sex, materialistic items, drugs, alcohol, and the more the people chase after those things, those instant highs, they end up not being able to deal with reality.

Experimental Animation #13

April 15, 2019

For today's shoot we shot my teammate Kristine's scene.
She had a creative idea with her being stuck in a bottle and she's a tiny version of herself.
I was a bit afraid to venture into something a bit challenging like that due to the fact I wasn't sure if we would have enough time to dedicated with masking and shrinking.
But her idea was creative and I hope that she likes the outcome of her footage.
she basically had to do the same thing as me, pixilation.
So she to, sat in the same place for a long period of time and sat underneath the extremely hot lights.

This week I decided to use an experimental animation piece form the youtube channel called
Source Ekalpa India. I chose this animation because for the past couple of weeks my group and I have been suffering with pixilation! in this footage, this team was able to have more of an open space for their pixilation and they didn't have to sit in one place for a couple of hours underneath some scorching hot lights! but none the less, good work was created.

Experimental Animation #12

April 8, 2019

It is now my day to film for my footage. Might I say, it was a lot of work to pixilize me.
I was sweating underneath the hot lights, it was hard to stay in one place, it was hard to not laugh, it was hard wearing a fur coat underneath the lights of the Sahara desert, it was hard having to not use the restroom but having to hold it for the sake of a shot...But it was worth it! I had fun because I know what actors/actress, and the CGI department of movies have to go through in order to get their masterpieces completed.
For this week's experimental animation research I found another experimental animation that I found on the same Vimeo page that I found Dante's animation in my previous post. This piece is by Mathieu Labaye and I thought that it was important to choose an animation that has a purpose/ meaning behind it. He dedicated it to his father that passed away that suffered from multiple sclerosis.
I chose this piece not only because of the dedication to his father but the time and disciplined it took to complete a 9 minute video.

Experimental Animation #11

April 1, 2019

This is the week of Spring break for my group and I and we are excited to get it done.
We were able to get some type of audio for our group to incorporate into their footage. I had a bit of trouble trying to figure out what sound to make for my scene so I decided to use a sound track from a movie so that way I can instantly get the audiences attention with the sound because it will be familiar to them. I have decided on the location where I will be. It will be somewhere in the sky so that way I can float with zero gravity. I wasn't sure if it was going to be in outer space or just in the stratosphere. These are a few pictures that I have in mind.

So for this week's experimental animation research I decided to choose The doodle project! Its by an animation named Dante Zaballa, where he started a single picture and sent it to various other animators to continue on with each scene with their own character design and their own motion so that way they can create their own animation after a period of time. I thought it was fun and a bit liberating without having to constrain oneself to one concrete style.

Experimental Animation #10

March 25, 2019

Today is the day where we began shooting our scenes for each of the members in the group. I think everyone's ideas are true to their tastes of animation and humor but we do have a lot of people that LOVE 2D animation, so when some are done filming their footage they will go ahead and rotoscope the footage and take their animation to another realm. For today we decided to utilize the hallway for one of my classmates footage that she needed. She wanted to make it seem like she was in a forest and she sees a plant that ends up scaring her away into another portal.

For this week's animation research I found a piece that was about plastic surgery. I do feel like it is a bit of an epidemic these days. For me, I personally believe that those that have suffered from burns, a disease, an accident are those that truly deserve cosmetic surgery do to the fact that they want to look like the everyday person, to go back to what they looked like so that they may forget the trauma. not he other hand, I believe that there are others that will abuse the term surgery to get instant gratification to gain some attention, followers, negative self esteem, as well as vanity. It leads to people becoming addicted to surgery, and they eventually never become satisfied with their looks, and some even end up with casualties from surgeries that could lead to disorders.

This piece is by a youtuber need Angie Koh

So I now have my new group and we are given the theme of portals for our very last project. At this point we are just deciding on what could be done to bring to life our project and how each of us can get the job done with filming and bringing in objects to help aid us in our filming process. I have decided to do a transformation sequence because I really liked how we were taught during one of our classes to crop out ourselves from a green screen and add ourselves to a different environment. Im not sure what I could do with that but I am still brainstorming.

This week for my experimental animation I found this cool video on youtube that has a variety of mixed animations that have completely different art styles. I liked the fact that there is a moment of experimental animation with the rain drops that gather together. It was made by the youtuber Napat Shinawatra

Experimental Animation #8

So for Last week's class, March 12, I got a new group since my last group and I submitted all of our work and got our final feedback. or the new group D, we needed to experiment by recording our voices as well as create 10 seconds of animation each. It was daunting but it was the most fun I had in the class. I could probably be a voice actress after this experience. We were having a lot of fun and I feel that learning how to add sound has definitely motivated all of us to use sound in our animation that we can make with our own vocal chords.

For this week's experimental animation that i really enjoyed was done by animator Jim LeFevre and other various artists. I enjoyed this experimental animation due to the fact one art peice that has already been completed, was animation as if it were a reel. super creative and its simple but can be tricky to pull off.

Experimental Animation #7

Today was the day that Group D and I finally got a chance got present all of our hard work! Super happy that I had a cooroperative group that communicated efficiently and was willing to contribute to the project as well as listen to the ideas of their peers. I was really comfortable with my group and I loved the dedication that was being showcased. This is our final product for our entity assignment. The part that was the highlight for me was working with my group mate named Sandy. We used acrylic paint, glitter, water, and paint remover to give the glitter a wave formation as well s giving the paint a nice water flow effect. It was a MESSY process but completely worth it. I'm glad that a lot of my classmates/ audience got positivity from the scene with he paint. I really wanted to showcase that although an entity is mysterious, it can be positive. So I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it.

So this week's experimental animation that seems to be promising to me is
from Calarts by Josh Schaffner. I like this animation due to the fact it reminds me of the days when I first started doing stop motion. I love the vibrant colors and I like this patterns. Simple and experimental.

Experimental Animation #6

So for today's class we started to wrap up our final project which revolved around water, colors, silhouettes, and a filtered scene to glaze over our footage. There were a few issues when putting it into after effects, such as, waiting for our altered/edited footage to load into the system. It Tok up a lot of our time and it was a bit frustrating because it slowed down our production and our final scene. It did get put together really well though and one of my favorite scenes besides the paint galaxy that was created to show the home of the entity, is the land of the individual stuck with nature. It made it feel like an old cartoon, but the tools we used were very twenty first century so I like the fact that we can take it back a bit to the past. It was an enjoyable experience I hope for our next assignment we can put a better foot forward.

This week's experimental animation highlight that caught my attention was the animation called Simulythos. Its posted on Vimeo under the name Snow Yunxue Fu but in the title of the film it says that its by Nick Flaherty but says that a multitude of people were included in the film that put their own individual work into it. My favorite part of the footage is parts 33:51-46:19. I loved the digital animation that was put into the work! I thought I was watching an indie horror game but I like this peace because I have been running into a lot of experimental animation that is abstract but for this piece I like the fact that there was a story being told. Only oh so many days left until people/androids have to evacuate.

Experimental Animation #5

So for today's class Group D was moving forward with our animation. We took a lot of what we learned from previous lessons to fuse into our final project such as the paint on the glass and using paint remover to help glide the colors together with oil paints. We plan to also include shadow puppets to storytelling, and we also plan to make the green screen effective as well. There were a plethora of ideas that can be useful with poses and and unique backgrounds that we can make in photoshop. There is still a lot of work that can be done so stay tuned for the final results.

This is an experimental animation that I found on the internet that contains a lot of abstract shapes but a great color scheme. Land by Masanobu Hiraoka

Experimental Animation # 4

SO for today's class, my professor went over a few things in after effects so that way we won't forget what we have learned in previous classes. We went over importing image sequence, keying, color correction, masking, and rendering. Since my group and I didn't have the model in a single spectrum on the green screen it was complicated to crop her out, plus it was a long process to crop her out frame by frame for each second so I just kept a circle around her head and commenced with the animating but you could still see her multiple movements in the circle nut her head isn't the focus.
BUT ITS EXPERIMENTAL!

For this week's research, I found this footage on Vimeo by
Srishti-Bangalore. I feel that this would go great with some of the ideas my group and I would have for our entirety project. Seems like after effects will be able to do a lot of the tasks that are needed.

Experimental Animation # 3

So for today's class, Group D started out our assignments by partaking in the William Burroughs writing style that leads to consequence. It was a fun assignment and very random. Seems that we had a good outcome with our sentence structure and storyline, lead to some interesting statements.

The second assignment we did for the day was based on making our own shadow puppets using a dark room as well as some see through silhouette cut outs as well as using my hands for the short animation clip that we put together.

The third project we did for the day was related to a green screen. Unfortunately we didn't have model so everyone decided that I should be the model for the shot. It was really fun and interesting. I think that I have gotten used to making really perfect work for my previous animation classes so the fact that I could loosen up a bit and just be goofy, free of worries, makes experimental animation even more fun and enjoyable. This is the original uncut version that I have decided to upload. I will eventually post up the finished version that has been composited in after effects in a few days.

The las assignment that we did for the day was related to oil paints. I usually use acrylic paints for my assignments because I like the speedy way that the paint dries but using oil paint was effortless. The paints glided together really smoothly and just a little bit wen ta long way, but the clean up was another story.

We also had to look for a video that showcased experimental work. I chose a student's assignment that I found on Vimeo. The reason why I chose this footage is due to the fact that this week I used oil paints for the first time and I just wanted to finish off the day strong with something that I have never used before. I like the pastel colors that were used for the production and the slow animation that alters with the transitions of the colors.

Experimental Animation # 2

Today, January 29, 2019 is the second day for my experimental animation class. For the past few   days my group and I needed to do research pertaining to the word "entity." We needed to look for things that can influence an audience's present interpretation of an entity, what materials we could use in order to create an entity, and sounds that can set the tone and vibe for the element. We then went ahead and created a second experimental animation piece to play around in dragon frame so that way we could use stop motion to capture our thoughts so we can represent our ideas thoroughly before we move forward with our final project. Lastly, we uploaded our footage to after effects and our professor showed us a few techniques to alter the footage in order to give it a kaleidoscope effect, so that way our audience is unsure as to what is going on or rather feel uneasy.

First Day of Experimental Animation

For today's class, January 22, 2019, We had the chance to explore Maya or rather any medium that we were comfortable with in order to make a five second video to show the unique things that we can do to learn what experimental animation was first hand. This is my video of five seconds that I created by using a rigged Maya character using a galaxy background. I really enjoyed this class because I was able to have fun with what I was doing. It didn't need to be perfect, it just needed to showcase that I was experimenting with my medium just so that I can be more open minded to the different techniques and styles that are related to the world of animation.

I came across an experimental animation performance that was on YouTube by a student named Miwa Matreyek from the California Institute of the Arts. In her piece, she uses a dark room to help create silhouettes as well as and led lights to alter her settings and her actions. This peace spoke to me due to the fact that I think that animation is just something that is a film but it can also be used for live action performances as well. By using led lights to animate her surroundings, it required her to use less props on the stage and helped her to maintain focus on her actions and visuals of the lights. It was very creative and it was nice to see transitions while she was on stage instead of having to wait for things to be moved around during an intermission. here is a link to her work
